The CLEVELAND C32978 is a cobalt square end mill built for demanding metal removal in ferrous and high-temperature alloy applications. The double-end design delivers two usable cutting ends, extending tool life on the shop floor. It measures 0.1875 inches in cutting diameter with a 0.5 inch length of cut, a 0.375 inch straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat, and a 3.25 inch overall length. The four-flute, right-hand spiral configuration and 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and stable cuts in steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys. A TiCN coating adds surface hardness and heat resistance, helping the tool hold an edge longer under high-feed conditions.
This end mill is suited for milling, slotting, and light profiling operations on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The HDC-4C series targets hard and abrasive workpiece materials including stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and nickel- and titanium-based high-temperature alloys. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole, giving machinists flexibility in pocket and slot work. It is a regular-length tool, appropriate for standard-reach applications where rigidity is a priority.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank tool holders and Weldon-flat side-lock holders accepting a 0.375 inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials are high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel as specified by the HDC-4C series application range.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the end mill. Tighten the set screw against the Weldon flat to prevent axial pullout under load. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, especially for finishing passes, and follow the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and coating type.
