Product Description

The CLEVELAND C32949 is a cobalt square end mill built for demanding metal removal in high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers the heat and wear resistance needed when machining tough workpieces that would prematurely dull standard HSS tooling. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life on the shop floor. A TiN (titanium nitride) coating further improves surface hardness and lubricity at the cutting edge. With a 0.25-inch diameter, 4-flute geometry, and a 30-degree helix angle, the C32949 is suited for finishing and light roughing passes where chip evacuation and edge quality both matter.

This end mill is designed for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines where a 0.375-inch straight shank is compatible with the spindle or toolholder. The 0.625-inch length of cut accommodates standard-depth slotting, peripheral milling, and profiling operations. Right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flutes are standard for conventional milling setups. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole. It is primarily applied in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments machining aerospace-grade alloys, die steels, and austenitic stainless grades.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt HSS construction resists heat buildup when cutting high-temperature alloys and stainless steel
  • TiN coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge
  • Double-end design provides two cutting ends per tool, reducing per-edge tooling cost
  • Centercutting geometry allows direct plunge milling without a pilot hole
  • 30-degree spiral flute helix balances chip evacuation with edge strength on 4-flute layout
  • Straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accommodates standard side-lock and collet holders

Compatibility

Designed for use in milling machines and machining centers accepting a 0.375-inch straight shank with Weldon flat. Intended for primary workpiece materials including high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel as specified by the HDC-4C series application range.

Installation Notes

Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per shop safety procedures. Seat the Weldon flat securely against the set screw in the toolholder to prevent pull-out under axial cutting loads. Verify runout with a dial indicator after mounting, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear on small-diameter end mills. Follow the machine manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for the specific workpiece material before beginning the cut.
