The CLEVELAND C32687 is a cobalt square end mill designed for metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, this tool delivers extended wear resistance and thermal stability compared to standard HSS end mills. It features a 1-inch cutting diameter, 4-inch length of cut, and a 4-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle, making it well suited for slotting, side milling, and profile cuts in ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials. The straight cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accommodates standard toolholders and minimizes pullout risk under load.
This end mill is rated for primary use in high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels. The long-series geometry, with a 6.5-inch overall length and 4-inch length of cut, allows access to deeper pockets and stepped features where standard-length tooling cannot reach. It is a center-cutting, right-hand cut, right-hand flute design, making it appropriate for both plunge entry and conventional milling operations. Machinists in tool shops, job shops, and production environments running knee mills, manual mills, or CNC machining centers are the primary users.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 1-inch shank square end mill applications in the CLEVELAND HGC-4C series. Compatible with standard 1-inch straight-shank and Weldon-flat toolholders used on manual and CNC milling machines.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a compatible toolholder and set-screw wrench; confirm the Weldon flat is correctly aligned with the clamping screw before tightening. Inspect the shank and toolholder bore for chips or contamination before seating the tool. Follow the machine manufacturer and shop safety guidelines for spindle lockout before changing tooling. Run tool at speeds and feeds appropriate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity — consult the manufacturer cutting data chart for the HGC-4C series.
