The CLEVELAND C32593 is a cobalt square end mill designed for metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and wear performance beyond standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 7/16 inch in diameter with a 1 inch length of cut, a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat, and a 2-11/16 inch overall length. A 30-degree spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. The TiN coating adds surface hardness and lubricity, extending tool life on abrasive materials. This is a centercutting tool, meaning it can plunge directly into workpiece material.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and carbon or alloy steel. Its four-flute configuration balances feed rate capability with chip clearance, making it a practical choice for side milling, slotting, and peripheral finishing passes. The HGC-4C series designation identifies it as a regular-length, single-end geometry in the CLEVELAND cobalt end mill line. Machinists and tool-and-die shops working with stainless or superalloy components will find the M42 substrate appropriate for the elevated cutting temperatures those materials generate.
Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel (material codes S, M, and P). Shank accepts standard 3/8 inch end mill holders and collet chucks with Weldon flat retention.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the Weldon flat against the set screw in the holder to prevent axial pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout at the tool tip with a dial indicator before beginning a cut; excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces surface finish quality. Cutting parameters should be selected based on workpiece material, machine rigidity, and coolant availability — consult the manufacturer's speed and feed tables for M42 cobalt tooling on the target material.
