The CLEVELAND C32509 is a cobalt square end mill built for demanding metal removal in ferrous and high-temperature alloy applications. The 5/16-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 9/16-inch length of cut and a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat, giving machinists a solid, positive-drive setup in standard end mill holders. Made from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN coating, this tool handles elevated cutting temperatures better than standard HSS. It runs right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle, producing efficient chip evacuation on a wide range of steels and superalloys. Centercutting geometry allows direct plunge milling without a pre-drilled hole.
This end mill is sized for regular-length work on manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys, making it a practical choice for tool rooms, job shops, and maintenance departments that run mixed material schedules. The HGC-2 series is designed for general-purpose to mid-performance milling where cobalt is preferred over carbide for toughness and re-grindability. With a 2-1/2-inch overall length, it fits standard collets and side-lock holders without extended-reach adapters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for regular-length cobalt square end mills with a 5/16-inch diameter, 3/8-inch shank, and 2-flute configuration; verify holder specs before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with end mill holder setup and runout verification. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and torque the set screw against the Weldon flat per the holder manufacturer specification. Verify tool runout with a dial indicator before commencing a cut to prevent premature tool wear or workpiece damage.
