The CLEVELAND C26190 is a cobalt M-42 spotting drill designed to accurately locate and start holes before final drilling operations. Built with a 120-degree point angle, it produces a precisely centered conical seat that guides twist drills, reducing walking and improving hole accuracy. The 0.5-inch cutting diameter and 6-inch overall length make it well-suited for work on steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous materials where high-speed steel tooling loses its edge. The straw finish indicates a heat-treated cobalt alloy substrate capable of handling elevated cutting temperatures without rapid wear. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this drill when hole position tolerance is critical.
This spotting drill is used in general-purpose machining environments including job shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production floor settings. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses where a stable, accurate hole start is needed prior to through-drilling, reaming, or tapping. The right-hand spiral flute geometry and straight cylindrical shank allow direct chuck mounting in standard drill chucks or collet holders. The 1.5-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance for typical spotting depths without excessive tool deflection.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks and straight-shank collet holders across CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and bench drill presses where a 0.5-inch straight shank is accepted.
Installation of this spotting drill is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom practices. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the tool from the chuck or collet holder. Verify chuck runout with a dial indicator before beginning a precision spotting operation, as excessive runout defeats the purpose of a spotting drill. Consult applicable machine manufacturer guidelines and shop safety protocols when setting speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling in your specific material.
