The CLEVELAND C23851 is a mechanics-length, high-speed steel (HSS) drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication and maintenance applications. Built to ASME B94.11M standards, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The flatted shank seats securely in standard drill chucks to prevent slipping under torque. At 25/64 inch (0.3906 inch decimal) diameter with a right-hand spiral flute, this bit handles cast iron and steel with consistent chip evacuation and reliable hole geometry.
This bit is suited for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and HVAC and plumbing installers who regularly drill through ferrous metals. It fits the Series 1875R product family and is appropriate for bench drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic base drills. The mechanics-length body keeps the overall length compact for work in tight clearances where a jobber-length bit would be difficult to control.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or addition for mechanics-length HSS drill bit sets used on cast iron and steel workpieces. Compatible with any standard drill chuck sized to accept a 0.3906-inch flatted shank.
Installation and use should follow standard machining and drilling safety practices. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling, and use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling through hardened steel to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is evident. Always wear appropriate eye protection when operating drilling equipment.
