The CLEVELAND C23845 is a mechanics-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. It measures 19/64 inch (0.2969 inch decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 3.88 inches and a flute length of 2.38 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact, allowing the bit to self-center without a pilot hole. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS), the C23845 handles the thermal demands of production drilling. A flatted shank provides positive grip in standard drill chucks. Right-hand cut with spiral flutes for efficient chip evacuation. This bit is appropriate for use by machinists, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and general trade professionals.
The C23845 is sized for mechanics-length applications where a shorter overall length improves rigidity and reduces deflection in tight spaces or when drilling through thicker stock. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron and steel, making it a practical choice for mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC rough-in work where ferrous drilling is routine. The 19/64 inch diameter is commonly used for tapping operations and clearance holes in light-gauge and structural steel. Single-piece packaging suits both individual jobsite use and tool crib stocking.
Designed as a general-purpose mechanics-length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.2969 inch (7.54 mm) flatted shank. Suited for drilling cast iron and steel workpieces per Series 1875R specifications.
Secure the flatted shank firmly in a keyed or keyless chuck before operation. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation during drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling steel to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if the point is chipped or dull to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
