The CLEVELAND C23831 is a mechanics-length, high-speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and cast iron applications. Built to the 1875R series, it features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on hard surfaces. The 5/64 inch diameter and 2 inch overall length make it well-suited for close-quarters work where a jobber-length bit would be too long. Right-hand spiral flutes clear chips efficiently. This bit is manufactured to ASME B94.11M standards and is a common tool in HVAC, plumbing, and general mechanical trades.
The C23831 is intended for drilling into steel and cast iron in residential and light commercial service environments. Its mechanics length keeps the bit rigid in tight spaces such as equipment panels, brackets, and structural framing. Typical applications include pilot holes for sheet metal screws, fastener clearance holes, and general metalwork during equipment installation or repair. It is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 12.
Designed for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.0781 inch flatted shank. Suitable for drilling cast iron and steel workpieces in general-purpose mechanical applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified mechanic or trade professional familiar with drill press or hand-drill operation. Ensure the bit is fully seated and the chuck is tightened before use. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling hardened steel to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the point shows signs of damage.
