Product Description

The CLEVELAND C16905 is a taper length cobalt drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in demanding materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in applications where standard HSS bits fall short. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking and improving hole accuracy. With a 3/8-inch diameter, 4.25-inch parabolic flute, and 6.75-inch overall length, this bit is sized for deeper reach than a jobber-length equivalent. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, and fabricators working in production or job-shop environments will find this a dependable daily driver.

The C16905 is suited for drilling aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. Its parabolic flute geometry promotes faster chip evacuation, which is critical when drilling deep holes or working in gummy materials like stainless and nickel alloy. The right-hand cut, straight shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. Web-thinned and tapered-web construction reduces thrust requirements and keeps the bit cutting efficiently through the full depth of the flute. This bit meets ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 standards and carries DIN 338 specification compliance.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt steel construction with Titanium Nitride coating for heat and wear resistance
  • 135-degree split point starts on contact without center-punching and reduces bit walking
  • Parabolic flute profile accelerates chip evacuation in deep-hole and gummy-material applications
  • Web-thinned, tapered-web design lowers drilling thrust and prolongs cutting edge life
  • Taper length body provides extra reach beyond standard jobber-length bits
  • Meets ASME B94.11M and DIN 340; DIN 338 specification number

Compatibility

Rated for use in aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. Straight shank fits any standard 3/8-inch or larger keyed or keyless drill chuck. Part of the Cleveland Series 2575T taper length cobalt drill bit family.

Installation Notes

Install in a properly sized drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, tool steel, or nickel alloys to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Operate at manufacturer-recommended surface footage for cobalt bits in the target material to avoid premature edge wear. Inspect the cutting edges and split point before each use and replace or resharpen when dulling is evident.
