The CLEVELAND C16898 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling in professional and industrial settings. Built to the 2575T series specification, it features a 17/64 inch (0.2656 inch decimal) diameter with a 135-degree split point for fast, self-centering starts with minimal walking. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup during extended cuts. A titanium nitride coating adds surface hardness and lubricity. This bit is intended for machinists, tool and die technicians, maintenance mechanics, and fabricators working in production or job-shop environments where standard-length bits fall short.
The C16898 is suited for drilling aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. Its taper length body provides greater reach than jobber-length bits, making it a practical choice for through-holes in thicker workpieces or deep-hole applications where a standard-length bit cannot reach. The straight shank fits conventional drill chucks without adapters. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for upright drill press, CNC, or handheld power tool use.
Designed as a taper length replacement drill bit compatible with materials including aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.2656 inch straight shank.
Installation and use of this bit is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, milling machine, or handheld power drill. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout before cutting. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for ferrous and stainless applications to manage heat, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each use; a worn or chipped edge will reduce hole accuracy and shorten tool life.
