The CLEVELAND C16891 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for demanding metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a Titanium Nitride coating, it delivers extended tool life when cutting through hard and abrasive materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows the bit to self-center without a pilot hole. With a 3-inch parabolic flute and a 5-3/8-inch overall length, the C16891 provides greater reach than jobber-length bits while maintaining rigidity. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, and industrial maintenance technicians are the typical end users for this class of drill bit.
The C16891 is rated for use in aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. The parabolic flute geometry promotes faster chip evacuation, which is especially useful in deeper-hole operations and gummy materials like stainless and nickel alloy. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks without requiring collets or adapters. This bit is a heavy-duty grade tool suited for production environments, maintenance shops, and job-site metalwork where a standard jobber-length bit lacks the reach or durability needed.
Rated for drilling aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. Straight shank fits standard drill chucks in benchtop drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand drills.
Install and remove this bit with the drilling machine fully powered off and the chuck key clear of the chuck. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent rotation and injury. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, cast iron, or nickel alloys to manage heat and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges and point before each use — a chipped or dull split point should not be run in production cutting.
