The CLEVELAND C16808 is a taper length twist drill bit built for heavy-duty metal cutting in demanding trade and industrial applications. Manufactured from HSS-CO 8% cobalt alloy (M42 grade), it delivers higher heat resistance and edge retention than standard HSS tooling. The 3 mm diameter bit features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing walking and the need for a center punch. A parabolic flute geometry promotes fast chip evacuation, keeping the cutting edge clear during deep-hole drilling. Black oxide coating provides corrosion resistance and mild lubricity. Overall length is 100 mm with a 2.756-inch flute length, and the straight cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks.
This bit is suited for machine shop, fabrication, and maintenance applications requiring tight tolerances and consistent performance across a wide range of materials. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements when drilling harder stock. It is appropriate for use in CNC drilling centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where a 3 mm straight-shank bit fits the chuck. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary users. Diameter tolerance is held to +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches for close-tolerance hole applications.
Rated for use in aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. Conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 standards; specification per DIN 338. Straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks accepting 3 mm shanks.
Install and remove drill bits only with the machine powered off and the spindle at a full stop. Secure the straight shank firmly in the drill chuck and verify concentricity before starting the cut. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, tool steel, or nickel alloys to maintain edge life. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine-guarding requirements during setup and operation.
