The CLEVELAND C16793 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in demanding materials. Built to Series 2575 specifications, it carries a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact and reduces the thrust needed to start a hole. The M42 cobalt construction provides heat resistance and edge retention when cutting through hard or abrasive workpiece materials. At 0.3281 inches in diameter with a 4.125-inch flute length and a 6.5-inch overall length, this bit gives tradespeople and machinists extended reach compared to a jobber-length drill while maintaining rigidity. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, reducing the chance of clogging during deep-hole drilling operations.
The C16793 is suited for drilling into aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. The taper length format makes it a practical choice when a standard jobber bit lacks the reach for the application but a longer aircraft-extension bit would sacrifice too much stiffness. It is commonly used in fabrication shops, maintenance and repair environments, and production drilling setups where varied material types are encountered on the same floor.
Designed as a heavy-duty taper length drill bit compatible with drilling into aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a straight shank at 0.3281 inches diameter.
This bit is installed by machinists, tool and die workers, and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, or hand-held electric drills with compatible chucks. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before operation to prevent slipping under load. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maintain edge life, particularly when drilling stainless steel or nickel alloy. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the split point shows degradation.
