The CLEVELAND C16766 is a taper length cobalt drill bit built for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. It carries a wire gauge size of 43, equivalent to 0.0890 inches in decimal diameter. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on hard surfaces. Made from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit handles the heat generated when drilling stainless steel, nickel alloy, tool steel, and other tough materials. The parabolic flute geometry clears chips efficiently, reducing the need to peck-drill in deeper holes. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks without an adapter.
This bit is suited for machine shop, fabrication, and maintenance applications where standard jobber-length bits lack the reach needed for deeper holes. The taper length body extends cutting depth compared to a standard jobber bit while still fitting a straight-shank chuck. It is appropriate for use in CNC drill presses, knee mills, and hand-held power drills on materials including aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. It is a common choice for machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance mechanics.
Designed as a heavy-duty OEM-style taper length drill bit compatible with any straight-shank drill chuck sized for a 0.0890-inch shank diameter. Suitable for use in drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power drills across metal fabrication and maintenance applications.
A licensed machinist or qualified tradesperson should ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, nickel alloy, or tool steel to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Do not exceed the recommended RPM range for the bit diameter and material being drilled. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
