The CLEVELAND C16763 is a taper length drill bit designed for demanding metal and industrial drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers the thrust required to start a hole without a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and keeps the cutting zone cooler during deep or continuous drilling cycles. At 0.0980 inches in diameter (wire size 40) with a 2.5-inch flute length and 4.625-inch overall length, this bit suits production drilling on drill presses and CNC equipment operated by machinists and maintenance technicians.
The C16763 is suited for drilling aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, tool steel, and plastic. Its taper length body provides added reach compared to jobber-length bits, making it effective in fixtures, jigs, and applications where clearance or depth demand a longer shank-to-flute ratio. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation.
Compatible material applications include aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. Designed as a standard straight-shank taper length drill bit fitting any chuck sized for a 0.0980-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by machinists or qualified maintenance technicians familiar with drilling equipment and speeds-and-feeds selection. Secure the straight shank fully in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck tightening with the key before starting the spindle. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit, so external cutting fluid is recommended when drilling hard alloys such as stainless or tool steel to manage heat and prolong tool life. Inspect the cutting edges and point before each use and remove the bit from service if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
