The CLEVELAND C16708 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in tough materials including hardened steels, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced heat buildup under continuous load. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking and improving hole accuracy. At 3.976 inches overall length with a 6.5 mm (0.2559 inch) diameter, it fits standard drill chucks and is suited for production-volume or maintenance drilling environments.
This bit is a practical choice for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople drilling through structural steel, sheet metal framing, pipe hangers, and electrical enclosures. The parabolic flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently in deep-hole drilling, reducing the need for peck-drilling cycles. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks on corded or cordless drill drivers, magnetic drill presses, and drill presses. It meets ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards, making it suitable for both domestic and international specification work.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or production drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.2559 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the Cleveland Series 2075T heavy-duty cobalt drill line.
Install the straight-cylindrical shank fully into a keyed or keyless three-jaw chuck and verify it is securely tightened before drilling. Use cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Apply steady, consistent feed pressure — excessive force can cause premature edge failure in cobalt bits. Disconnect power to the drill press or confirm the drill driver is off before bit changes.
