The CLEVELAND C16703 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced heat buildup during aggressive drilling operations. The 135-degree split point geometry allows the bit to self-center on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch in most applications. With a parabolic flute design, chip evacuation is fast and efficient, reducing recutting and tool wear in deeper holes. This drill bit is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working with stainless steel, hardened alloys, and other demanding workpiece materials.
The C16703 is suited for general-purpose and heavy-duty drilling in both production and maintenance-repair-operations (MRO) environments. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without requiring a collet or special adapter. At 5 mm in diameter with a 3.386-inch overall length and a flute length of 2.047 inches, it covers a wide range of through-hole and blind-hole drilling tasks in metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, and industrial service work. Conformance to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 ensures dimensional consistency with tooling standards used across North American and European trade applications.
Designed as a heavy-duty jobber-length drill bit conforming to DIN 338 and ASME B94.11M standards, compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1969-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills in MRO and production environments.
Installation is performed by machinists and mechanical trade professionals. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the drill chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance before cutting. Always power down and de-energize equipment before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maximize tool life, as this bit does not support through-coolant delivery.
