The CLEVELAND C16658 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling applications in hard and abrasive materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life in demanding production and maintenance environments. It features a 135-degree split point for fast, accurate starts with minimal walking, and a parabolic flute geometry for efficient chip evacuation. The overall length is 2.125 inches with a flute length of 1.125 inches. Licensed machinists, maintenance mechanics, and trade professionals installing fasteners in tough substrate materials are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for use in metal fabrication, HVAC equipment assembly, mechanical contracting, and general industrial maintenance where hard or work-hardening metals are encountered. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. The right-hand cutting direction is compatible with conventional drill press and hand drill operation. The parabolic flute design reduces friction and heat buildup during extended drilling cycles, making it well-suited for stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and other challenging materials common in trade work.
Designed as a Series 2075T jobber length drill bit in wire gauge size 45 (0.0820 inches decimal), compatible with any standard drill press, magnetic drill, or hand drill with a chuck capacity that accommodates a 0.0820-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck key removal prior to powering the drill. Use cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or high-nickel alloys to preserve coating life and reduce heat buildup. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the workpiece material, as excessive pressure can cause premature tip wear or bit breakage at small diameters. Disposal of worn bits containing cobalt alloys should follow applicable local regulations for metal waste.
