The CLEVELAND C16656 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life in hard and abrasive materials. The split point tip at 135 degrees reduces walking and allows drilling without a center punch. A parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during deep-hole drilling. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.0890 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. This is a heavy-duty Series 2075T bit intended for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals.
The C16656 is sized at wire gauge number 43, with a decimal diameter of 0.0890 inches. It is well suited for drilling pilot holes, clearance holes, and precision holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other ferrous materials where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. The 2.25-inch overall length and 1.25-inch flute length make it appropriate for close-quarters work and bench drill press operations in fabrication shops, maintenance environments, and production lines.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit for standard three-jaw drill chucks and keyless chucks accepting a 0.0890-inch straight-cylindrical shank in benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling applications.
Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a standard drill press, hand drill, or CNC spindle. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout before beginning production drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on hard ferrous materials to reduce heat and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace when the split point or flute edges show signs of degradation.
