The CLEVELAND C16623 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life in tough materials including stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and hardened steels. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust and walking at startup, eliminating the need for a center punch on most surfaces. At 3.5 inches overall length with a 2.3125-inch flute, this bit fits standard jobber-length drill chucks and is suited for bench drills, hand drills, and CNC equipment. Cutting direction is right-hand. Wire size is No. 12, equivalent to 0.1890 inches.
This bit is used in metalworking, fabrication, mechanical contracting, and maintenance trades. The parabolic flute geometry promotes fast chip evacuation during deep-hole drilling in ductile and abrasive metals, reducing heat buildup and chip packing. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces cutting resistance and improves centering accuracy. It is well suited for production drilling in ferrous metals, sheet metal work, and structural steel fabrication where a standard twist drill would wear prematurely.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber-length drill bit for any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1890-inch straight-cylindrical shank, conforming to ANSI jobber-length specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists, fabricators, and maintenance mechanics. Secure the shank fully in a calibrated three-jaw or keyless chuck before operation and verify runout before drilling production work. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hardened or stainless materials to manage heat, noting that this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear after extended use in abrasive materials and replace before diameter tolerance is compromised.
