The CLEVELAND C16598 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit engineered for demanding metal-cutting applications in industrial and trade environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a gold oxide finish that reduces friction and helps manage heat during high-speed drilling. The parabolic flute geometry promotes fast chip evacuation, keeping the cutting zone clear during deep-hole work. The split point tip, ground to 135 degrees, self-centers on contact and eliminates the need for a center punch on most surfaces. At 4.291 inches overall length, with a 2.7165-inch flute and a straight-cylindrical shank, this bit fits standard drill chucks and CNC tool holders without modification.
This bit is suited for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and general steel in fabrication, maintenance, and machine-shop settings. The heavy-duty grade and M42 cobalt composition make it appropriate where standard HSS bits wear prematurely or fail in harder alloys. It is a single-unit item, packaged and sold individually, and conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards for jobber-length drills. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, pipe fitters, and maintenance mechanics will find this a reliable choice for production and repair drilling.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and CNC machining centers accepting a 0.2756-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and steel. Conforms to DIN 338 specification for jobber-length drills.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should install and operate this bit using appropriate drilling equipment rated for the intended material and feed rate. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured before engaging the drill. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed parameters for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
