The CLEVELAND C16589 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for drilling into hard and abrasive materials including stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened steels. Built to M42 cobalt high-speed steel grade, it carries an oxide and gold coating that improves lubricity and helps resist heat buildup during aggressive cuts. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers feed pressure at the start of the hole. At 2.953 inches overall length with a 1.693-inch flute, this is a standard jobber format suited to benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC applications requiring general-purpose hole sizes in the 0.15 to 0.20 inch range.
This bit is used in metalworking, fabrication, maintenance, and industrial service environments. The 4 mm diameter (0.1575 inch decimal equivalent) and straight-cylindrical shank fit standard three-jaw chucks without adapters. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling scenarios and reduces recutting. Right-hand cut configuration is standard for conventional drill press and handheld applications. It conforms to DIN 338 specification for jobber length drills.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw chucks accepting a 0.1575-inch straight-cylindrical shank, suitable for drill presses, hand drills, and CNC spindles used in metal fabrication and maintenance applications.
Installation of this bit is performed by machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, hand drills, or CNC equipment. Secure the straight shank firmly in a three-jaw chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed before powering the spindle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or other high-hardness materials to extend bit life. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed for the material being drilled.
