The CLEVELAND C16585 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications in production and maintenance environments. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a gold oxide coating, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS bits. The 135-degree split point allows fast penetration with minimal walking, and the parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. This 2 mm (0.0787 inch) bit has an overall length of 1.929 inches and is built to heavy-duty grade standards. The C16585 is intended for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel in both shop and field settings. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and keyless chuck systems. The parabolic flute and web-thinned tip reduce thrust requirements, making this bit particularly effective in stainless steel and other work-hardening alloys where heat buildup is a concern. This bit does not support coolant-through delivery, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling harder materials at sustained feed rates.

Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify runout before drilling. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or external coolant when working with stainless steel or other work-hardening alloys to prevent premature edge wear. Match spindle speed and feed rate to the workpiece material and bit diameter per standard machining reference data. Inspect the cutting edges and split point for wear or chipping between uses, as a dull or damaged tip increases thrust and heat, accelerating bit failure.
