The CLEVELAND C16580 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, this bit delivers heat resistance and edge retention when working through tough materials. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking and thrust. The parabolic flute geometry clears chips efficiently, making it well-suited for deep-hole drilling in production environments. Two right-hand flutes and a straight cylindrical shank ensure compatibility with standard drill chucks. This bit meets ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards and carries a heavy-duty grade rating.
This drill bit is intended for use on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. It fits applications where standard HSS bits fail prematurely due to heat buildup or work hardening, such as drilling stainless steel fittings, cast iron flanges, or structural steel in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical rough-in work. The 29/64 inch diameter is a common size for bolt clearance and anchor hole preparation. A licensed electrician, pipefitter, or HVAC installer performing metal fabrication or penetration work would typically use this bit with a heavy-duty corded drill or drill press.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks and drill press spindles accepting a 29/64 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces as specified by the manufacturer.
Install this bit in a drill press or handheld drill with a properly tightened three-jaw chuck before powering the tool. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before beginning the cut. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or cast iron to extend bit life and prevent work hardening at the cut surface. Do not exceed the recommended speed range for the workpiece material, and allow the flutes to clear chips freely to avoid bit breakage.
