The CLEVELAND C16561 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit built for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit handles the heat and abrasion generated when cutting hard, tough workpiece materials. The split point design at 135 degrees reduces walking and allows the bit to self-center without a pilot hole. A parabolic flute geometry clears chips efficiently and reduces cutting resistance. The straight-cylindrical shank is 5/32 inches in diameter, and overall length is 3-1/8 inches. It is sized and manufactured to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards.
This drill bit is intended for use in production and maintenance environments where hard metals such as cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and non-ferrous metals are drilled regularly. The M42 cobalt grade provides added heat resistance over standard M2 HSS, making it a practical choice when drilling interrupted cuts or running higher feed rates without coolant-through capability. It is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and other trades requiring reliable metal-cutting performance in handheld or drill press applications.
Designed as an OEM-grade replacement or direct-purchase cobalt jobber drill bit suitable for 3/8-inch or larger drill chucks accepting a 5/32-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and non-ferrous metals.
Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance trade professionals using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Secure the straight shank fully into the chuck before operation and verify runout before cutting. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use cutting fluid applied externally when drilling stainless steel or cast iron to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges and web before each use and replace if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
