The CLEVELAND C16560 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in steel and other ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a straw (gold oxide) coating, it delivers heat resistance and extended tool life under high-feed conditions. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, making this bit well-suited for deeper holes where chip packing is a concern. Licensed tradespeople and machinists reach for this bit when standard HSS tooling falls short.
The C16560 is a Series 2075 bit sized at 9/64 inches (0.1406 inches decimal) with a 1-3/4 inch flute length and a 2-7/8 inch overall length. It is designed for right-hand cutting with a straight cylindrical shank, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and drill press collets. Primary application is drilling steel, including hardened and stainless grades, though it performs well in other tough workpiece materials. It sees regular use in HVAC fabrication, pipe fitting, electrical rough-in work, and general mechanical assembly where precision hole sizing matters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for 9/64 inch jobber drill bits used in standard three-jaw drill chucks, keyed chucks, and drill press spindles accepting straight-shank tooling.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and licensed trade professionals using a standard drill press, hand drill, or magnetic drill. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck jaws before tightening to prevent runout. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Operate at manufacturer-recommended speeds for the workpiece material and bit diameter to avoid overheating the cobalt substrate.
