The CLEVELAND C16549 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, this bit handles cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and non-ferrous metals without breaking down under heat. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on hard surfaces. At 2 inches overall length with a 1-inch parabolic flute, it delivers fast chip evacuation and reduced friction in short-hole applications. Licensed trade professionals and production machinists reach for this bit when standard HSS tooling falls short on abrasion-resistant alloys.
The C16549 is sized to wire gauge number 47, equivalent to 0.0785 inches in decimal. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks on hand drills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers without an adapter. The parabolic flute geometry suits interrupted cuts and materials that generate stringy chips. Typical applications include drilling pilot holes in stainless steel fabrication, cast iron repair work, and production drilling on hard alloy components where tool life and hole tolerance matter.
Designed for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0785-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Part of the Cleveland Series 2075 heavy-duty cobalt jobber drill line.
Install the shank fully into a properly sized drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to extend bit life, noting this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and split point for wear or chipping before each use. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine guarding requirements when operating drill presses or CNC equipment.
