The CLEVELAND C16524 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications in industrial and trade environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a gold oxide coating, this bit handles elevated cutting temperatures that would degrade standard HSS tooling. It carries a 135-degree split point for reduced walking and lower thrust requirements at entry, and a parabolic flute geometry that clears chips efficiently in deep holes. The overall length is 3.125 inches with a 2-inch flute length, and the straight-cylindrical shank diameter is 0.1570 inches, corresponding to wire gauge size 22. Licensed machinists, tool and die shops, and general metalworking trades are the primary users.
This bit is suited for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel in production and job-shop settings. The M42 cobalt alloy composition provides additional heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS, making it a practical choice for interrupted cuts, hard alloys, and situations where coolant is not available. The two-flute parabolic design promotes chip ejection in both through-hole and blind-hole drilling. The tapered web with web thinning reduces axial force and helps maintain a clean entry on harder workpieces.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or stock bit for any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1570-inch straight-cylindrical shank, consistent with wire gauge size 22 tooling in the Cleveland Series 2075 lineup.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance trades using a keyed or keyless drill chuck on a drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before starting the cut. When drilling stainless steel or cast iron, use the lowest practical spindle speed and apply cutting fluid where possible to maximize bit life, even though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
