The CLEVELAND C16504 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a gold oxide finish, this bit handles heat and wear that standard HSS tooling cannot. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking and improving positional accuracy. With a parabolic flute design and web-thinned, tapered web construction, chips evacuate efficiently during deep drilling. At 0.2210 inches in diameter (wire size 2) and 3-7/8 inches overall length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and CNC setups alike. It is sold individually and suited for machine shops, maintenance departments, and fabrication environments.
This bit is rated for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The M42 cobalt grade gives it edge retention at elevated cutting temperatures, making it a reliable choice for interrupted cuts and production drilling in abrasive or work-hardening materials. The straight cylindrical shank with a 1.2500-inch shank length seats securely in standard drill press chucks, CNC turrets, and hand-held power drills. It is a heavy-duty grade bit appropriate for metalworking trades, machinists, and maintenance technicians who regularly encounter hard or abrasive workpiece materials.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber drill bit conforming to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards, suitable for use in standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills accepting a 0.2210-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Install and remove drill bits only with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Secure the shank firmly in the chuck or toolholder before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature edge wear. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or cast iron to extend tool life, noting this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed selection.
