The CLEVELAND C16240 is a taper length drill bit engineered for professional metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit runs a wire gauge size 21, corresponding to 0.1590 inch decimal diameter. The 118-degree notched point with web thinning and a parabolic flute geometry promotes faster chip evacuation and reduced thrust in production drilling. The tanged shank provides a positive drive connection in compatible chuck systems. A licensed tradesperson or machinist will find this bit appropriate for medium-to-high volume drilling tasks where flute length matters.
This drill bit is suited for drilling into alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper alloy, and other non-ferrous metals. The taper length body, with a 3-3/8 inch flute length and 5-3/4 inch overall length, provides additional reach compared to a jobber-length bit, making it appropriate for deeper hole applications, angled entries, or work where a standard-length bit cannot reach the target depth. It fits production environments, job-site metalwork, and mechanical service shops alike.
Compatible with alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper alloy, and non-ferrous metal workpieces as noted in manufacturer specifications. Designed as a Series 2565 taper length replacement bit for standard tanged-shank drill chucks and holders accepting a 0.1590 inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained tradesperson familiar with drill press, lathe, or hand-drill safety practices. Always secure the workpiece before drilling and confirm chuck compatibility with the tanged shank type. Operate at appropriate surface footage for the base metal being drilled and apply cutting fluid when working stainless or alloy steel to extend tool life. Inspect the point and cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or wear is present.
