The CLEVELAND C16082 is a taper length drill bit engineered for demanding metal drilling applications in shop and field environments. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 7/16-inch diameter, a 118-degree notched point, and a parabolic flute geometry with web thinning for faster chip evacuation and reduced thrust. At 7-1/4 inches overall length and 4-5/8 inches of flute length, it reaches deeper holes than a jobber-length bit while maintaining rigidity. The tanged shank ensures positive drive engagement. Licensed machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors working with structural and ferrous stock are the primary installers.
The C16082 is suited for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper alloy, and other non-ferrous metals. Its taper length profile makes it the preferred choice when extra reach is needed beyond standard jobber bits, such as when drilling through deep flanges, structural members, or fabricated assemblies. The parabolic flute profile and web-thinned point help maintain cutting efficiency in materials that generate significant heat or chip packing pressure, including stainless steel and copper alloy. This bit is appropriate for both hand-held drill use and drill press or mill applications where a tanged shank drive is compatible.

This bit is installed and operated by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, or other tradespeople performing metal drilling. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the drill press or drill motor is rated for the torque requirements of the material. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or other work-hardening alloys to extend bit life and prevent galling. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present.
