The CLEVELAND C16072 is a taper length twist drill bit engineered for deep-hole drilling in metal fabrication and machining applications. It measures 9/32 inch (0.2812 inch decimal) in diameter with a 118-degree notched point and a parabolic flute profile that improves chip evacuation at extended depths. The bright, uncoated high-speed steel construction provides reliable performance across a wide range of workpiece materials. Overall length is 6-1/4 inches with a 3-7/8 inch flute length, giving it greater reach than a jobber-length bit without sacrificing rigidity. A tanged shank seats securely in taper-shank drill chucks and machine spindles. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance mechanics use this bit in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines.
The C16072 is suited for production and maintenance drilling in alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper alloy, and other non-ferrous metals. Its parabolic flute geometry reduces cutting resistance and helps clear chips efficiently during deep passes, making it a practical choice for through-holes and blind holes where a standard jobber bit does not have sufficient reach. The right-hand cut and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce thrust requirements at the cutting edge.
Compatible with materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper alloy, and non-ferrous metals. Fits taper-shank drill chucks and machine spindles accepting a 9/32 inch tanged shank. Part of the CLEVELAND Series 2565 taper length drill program.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance mechanics familiar with metal-cutting operations. Secure the tanged shank fully in the chuck or spindle before operation and verify that the machine spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting the bit. Eye protection and appropriate chip guarding are required during drilling operations.
