The CLEVELAND C15984 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Built to M42 cobalt high-speed steel specifications, it delivers superior heat resistance and edge retention compared to standard M2 bits. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking and thrust requirements at entry, allowing faster penetration without a center punch. An oxide coating provides additional surface hardness and corrosion resistance. This bit is designed for production and maintenance professionals who drill superalloys, stainless steel, and other high-strength workpiece materials where standard HSS tooling fails prematurely.
The C15984 is suited for applications in aerospace, industrial maintenance, and heavy fabrication environments where superalloy and high-nickel alloy drilling is routine. It is a right-hand cut bit with a fast spiral flute configuration, which promotes efficient chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling scenarios. The straight-cylindrical shank allows use in standard drill chucks and machine tool spindles. With an overall length of 5-1/8 inches and a flute length of 1-7/8 inches, it fits within the standard jobber length envelope for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drill motors.
Designed as an OEM-compatible jobber length drill bit for use with standard drill chucks and spindles accepting a straight-cylindrical shank; primary workpiece material is superalloy per Series 3780 specifications.
This bit is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians in drill presses, CNC machines, or hand-held drill motors. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck tightness. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling superalloys to manage heat buildup at the cutting edge. Inspect the split point for chipping or wear before each use, as worn geometry increases thrust loads and reduces hole quality.
