The CLEVELAND C15976 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. Built to M42 cobalt steel grade, it carries a 135-degree split point that starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on hard surfaces. The oxide coating improves lubrication retention and helps shed heat during extended drilling cycles. At 4.75 inches overall length with a 1.6875-inch flute, this bit is sized for general-purpose jobber work in a standard drill chuck. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople as well as industrial maintenance technicians reach for this bit when cutting through superalloys, stainless, and other hard ferrous materials.
The C15976 is a heavy-duty bit intended for use on superalloys, high-nickel alloys, stainless steel, and similarly hard workpiece materials. Its fast-spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling scenarios common to mechanical and process-trade installations. The straight cylindrical shank measures 11/32 inch in diameter, fitting standard three-jaw drill chucks on corded drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills without an adapter. It conforms to ASME B94.11M dimensional standards and carries an NAS specification designation, making it suitable for work on commercial and light-industrial job sites where material traceability matters.
Designed for use in standard 11/32-inch straight-cylindrical-shank drill chucks across corded drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills. Primary workpiece material designation is superalloy; also suitable for other hard ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials consistent with heavy-duty cobalt-grade tooling.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed prior to powering the tool. Use a cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material to maximize bit life, particularly when drilling superalloys or stainless steel. Operate at reduced RPM with steady, consistent feed pressure to avoid work-hardening the material or overheating the cutting edge. Inspect the split point for chipping or wear before each use; a damaged point should be resharpened or the bit replaced before returning it to service.
