The CLEVELAND C15968 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit handles hardened steels, stainless, and abrasion-resistant alloys where standard HSS bits wear out prematurely. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust needed to start the hole. At 4-3/8 inches overall length with a 1-9/16 inch flute, it fits standard drill chucks and magnetic base drills used in fabrication, mechanical, and industrial maintenance work. Licensed trades and journeymen machinists reach for cobalt-grade bits when tool life and hole quality matter on demanding materials.
This bit is suited for drilling ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and other hard alloys in both shop and field settings. The fast spiral flute promotes chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup in deep-hole applications. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard 3-jaw chucks without modification. Typical applications include HVAC equipment fabrication, structural steel drilling, plumbing rough-in through metal framing, and general mechanical maintenance where a heavy-duty jobber bit is the standard tool of choice.
Designed as a heavy-duty jobber-length drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks and compatible drilling equipment accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 19/64 inch diameter range.
Installation is performed by qualified tradespeople using standard drill presses, hand drills, or magnetic base drills. Secure the workpiece before drilling and verify chuck tightness before starting. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless or hardened alloys to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Do not run cobalt bits at excessively high RPM in hard materials, as overheating reduces the cobalt steel temper and shortens tool life.
