The CLEVELAND C15965 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for demanding metal cutting applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit resists heat and wear when drilling hard metals, stainless steel, and superalloys. It features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole without a center punch. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 9/32 inch in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. Overall length is 4.25 inches, with a 1.5-inch flute length. The fast spiral, two-flute design clears chips efficiently during through-hole drilling in production and maintenance environments. Meets ASME B94.11M standards and carries an NAS specification designation.
This bit is suited for drilling superalloys, hardened steels, and other high-strength metals where standard HSS bits lose their edge prematurely. It is a standard choice in aerospace, heavy manufacturing, and industrial maintenance shops where M42 cobalt tooling is specified. The 9/32-inch diameter fits applications requiring a hole size of 0.2812 inches. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics working in manual drill presses, CNC setups, or handheld power drills commonly use this Series 3780 bit for high-duty-cycle work.
Designed as a heavy-duty OEM-style jobber length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 9/32-inch straight shank. Intended primary workpiece material is superalloy; also appropriate for stainless steel and other high-strength metals requiring cobalt tooling.
Install in a properly rated drill press, lathe tailstock, or handheld power drill with a chuck rated for the shank diameter. Secure the shank fully in the chuck jaws before applying power. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling superalloys and hardened steels to manage heat buildup, even though this bit is not coolant-through rated. Replace the bit if chipping, glazing, or excessive heat discoloration is observed on the cutting edges.
