The CLEVELAND C15904 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for demanding metal cutting applications. Built to Series 3780 standards and manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit delivers the heat resistance and edge retention needed when drilling superalloys, stainless steel, and other hard materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers the thrust required to start a hole. An oxide coating provides added lubricity and mild corrosion resistance. At 2.375 inches overall length with a 0.8125-inch flute, it is sized for production and maintenance work where a standard jobber geometry is required.
This bit is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power drills across aerospace, defense, and industrial manufacturing environments. Its right-hand spiral flute and fast spiral type efficiently evacuate chips from tight holes in superalloys and hard ferrous materials. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks and collet holders sized for 0.0980-inch shanks. Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the typical users of this bit in both production and repair settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber drill for applications requiring a No. 40 wire gauge (0.0980 inch) hole diameter in superalloy, stainless, and hard ferrous workpieces. Compatible with any standard chuck or collet accepting a 0.0980-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Install the shank fully into the chuck or collet and verify concentricity before cutting. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling superalloys to manage heat buildup, even though this bit does not support through-coolant. Follow shop safety protocols and ASME B94.11M guidelines for drill press speed and feed settings appropriate to the workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
