The CLEVELAND C15897 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications where standard HSS tooling falls short. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention when drilling superalloys, stainless steel, and other hard or abrasive materials. The bit runs a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry with reduced thrust force, and features a fast-spiral flute geometry with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a 0.750-inch flute length. Manufactured to ASME B94.11M standards and designated to NAS specification, this is a heavy-duty tool built for production and maintenance environments.
This bit is sized to wire gauge 46, equivalent to 0.0810 inches decimal diameter. It is suited for drilling superalloys, high-nickel alloys, titanium, and similarly hard workpiece materials in aerospace, industrial maintenance, and precision fabrication applications. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet systems without adapters. Right-hand cutting direction is compatible with conventional drill press, hand drill, and CNC spindle setups. It ships individually (package quantity of 1) and is subject to a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.0810-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material designation is superalloy; suitable for other hard and abrasive metals requiring cobalt-grade tooling.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by machinists or qualified trades personnel familiar with metalworking equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling superalloys or stainless steel to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Do not exceed the rated speed range for the workpiece material and bit diameter; consult published SFM charts for cobalt HSS tooling.
