The CLEVELAND C15895 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling into superalloys, stainless steel, and other hard or abrasive materials that defeat standard high-speed steel tooling. Built to Series 3780 specifications, it carries an M42 cobalt steel construction with an oxide coating to reduce friction and extend tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The drill point is ground to a 135-degree split point angle with web thinning, which reduces thrust and allows self-centering on the workpiece without a center punch in most setups. Overall length is 2 inches with a 5/64-inch straight-cylindrical shank, making it a direct fit for standard drill chucks and quick-change holders.
This bit is suited for metalworking and maintenance applications where hardened or high-strength base materials are encountered. Typical users include aerospace and industrial maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and millwrights working with superalloy components, heat-treated fastener holes, or stainless fixtures. The fast spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in deep-hole scenarios common in tight-clearance structural and mechanical assemblies. Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with metal cutting speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm the chuck is properly tightened to prevent shank slippage under load. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use an appropriate cutting fluid applied externally to manage heat when drilling hard materials. Do not exceed recommended RPM for the material and bit diameter, as cobalt tooling is brittle under lateral load and can fracture if the drill binds or deflects.
