The CLEVELAND C15890 is a jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it delivers heat and wear resistance needed when machining superalloys, stainless steel, and other hard materials. The bit carries a 135-degree split point for self-centering starts with reduced thrust, and a fast spiral flute geometry for efficient chip evacuation. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration further reduces cutting resistance. At 1-7/8 inches overall length with a straight-cylindrical shank, this is a heavy-duty wire gauge drill intended for precision work on production floors and maintenance shop benches alike.
This bit is sized to wire gauge number 52, with a decimal diameter of 0.0635 inches. It is suited for drilling superalloys, hardened steels, and other high-strength workpiece materials where standard HSS tooling would fail prematurely. The right-hand cut, two-flute spiral design handles both hand-feed and machine-feed applications in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power tools. It conforms to ASME B94.11M dimensional standards and carries a NAS specification designation, making it appropriate for aerospace and defense fabrication environments as well as general industrial use.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber drill for industrial drilling applications requiring wire gauge tooling in cobalt HSS, particularly where superalloy or high-strength steel workpieces are involved.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool and die professionals using a standard drill chuck or collet compatible with a 0.0635-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Ensure the drill press, CNC spindle, or handheld tool is fully de-energized and secured before changing tooling. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain dimensional accuracy. Do not exceed the rated speed range for the workpiece material or apply side loading to this jobber length bit.
