The CLEVELAND C15882 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit handles tough materials including superalloys where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and cutting thrust, and the fast spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. At 1-5/8 inches overall length with a 1/2-inch flute length, this is a compact, wire-gauge No. 58 bit sized at 0.0420 inches diameter. It is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals working in production or field environments.
This bit is suited for drilling superalloys, stainless steels, and other hard or abrasion-resistant materials where cobalt tooling is specified. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collets across benchtop drill presses, CNC machines, and handheld drill drivers. The Series 3780 designation places it within a heavy-duty cobalt line built to ASME B94.11M standards. Typical applications include precision hole work in aerospace components, industrial fabrication, and maintenance repair operations requiring tight-tolerance small-diameter drilling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit jobber drill for any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.0420-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including benchtop drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power drills.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard drill chuck or collet system. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling superalloys to manage heat buildup, even though this bit does not support through-coolant. Follow shop safety protocols and OSHA general industry standards for rotating tool operation.
