The CLEVELAND C15150 is a screw machine length drill bit sized to Letter U (0.3680 inches) and built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiAlN coating. The shortened overall length of 3-1/8 inches provides added rigidity in tight clearance setups, reducing deflection during entry. The 135-degree split point geometry self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch in most applications. A parabolic flute profile evacuates chips efficiently at higher feed rates. Right-hand cut with a straight-cylindrical shank, this bit seats directly in standard drill chucks and quick-change holders. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This bit is well suited for production drilling and job-shop work across a wide range of workpiece materials including aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastics, stainless steel, and tool steel. The TiAlN coating provides heat resistance that extends tool life in harder ferrous materials and interrupted cuts. The screw machine length format is a common choice for drill press, mill, and lathe-tailstock operations where a standard jobber-length bit would introduce excess runout or overhang.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and quick-change tool holders accepting a 0.3680-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with drill presses, milling machines, and lathe tailstocks. Suitable for workpiece materials including aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastics, stainless steel, and tool steel per Series 2175A specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians in machine shop or field environments. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended surface footage for the workpiece material, and apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, nickel alloy, or tool steel to manage heat buildup.
