The CLEVELAND C14803 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in demanding industrial and trade applications. With a 0.1378-inch diameter and an overall length of 2.047 inches, this stub-length bit provides added rigidity and reduced deflection compared to jobber-length bits. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on hard or curved surfaces. The M42 cobalt construction handles elevated drilling temperatures and extends tool life in abrasive or work-hardening materials. It is well suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, fabricators, and tool-and-die trades requiring precise short-hole drilling.
This bit is intended for drilling alloy steels and aluminum in production and maintenance environments where a short, stiff bit is preferred. Screw machine length geometry is commonly used in CNC drilling operations, turret lathes, and drill presses where workpiece access is limited or hole depth is shallow. The straight-cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard drill chucks and collets. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction reduces thrust load and helps maintain cut accuracy through the full flute length of 0.787 inches.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use screw machine drill bit for applications in alloy steel and aluminum. Fits standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.1378-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 specifications.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians in shop and field environments. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify concentricity to avoid premature wear. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material even though this bit does not feature through-coolant capability. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present to maintain hole-quality standards.
