The CLEVELAND C14724 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built from M42 cobalt tool steel, it features a 135-degree split point and web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and enables fast starts without a center punch. At 3-9/16 inches overall length with a 2-1/8 inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks via its straight-cylindrical shank. The right-hand cut, two-flute spiral design clears chips efficiently and maintains accuracy within a tight diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0010 inches. It is rated as heavy duty and conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 standards.
This bit is suited for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, and other demanding workpiece materials in production and maintenance environments. Screw machine length geometry makes it well-matched to drill presses, CNC machining centers, and screw machines where short, rigid tooling is preferred over jobber-length bits. The cobalt construction holds up under the heat generated by stainless alloys and hardened materials where high-speed steel bits would degrade quickly. It is commonly used by machinists, tool and die makers, and industrial maintenance technicians in both shop and field settings.
The C14724 is part of Cleveland Series 2133 and is designed for use with alloy steel and aluminum workpieces. It fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.4531 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
This bit is installed and removed by a licensed machinist or qualified technician using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Ensure the drilling machine is fully powered down and secured before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to prolong bit life and maintain hole quality. Do not exceed the feed and speed parameters recommended for cobalt tooling in the material being drilled.
