The CLEVELAND C14721 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built from M42 cobalt steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel bits. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without center-punching and reduces thrust, making it well suited for production drilling environments. At 3-7/16 inches overall length with a 2-1/16-inch flute length and a straight cylindrical shank, this bit is sized for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual screw machine setups where a shorter, stiffer bit reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy.
This drill bit is built for machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians drilling into alloy steels, aluminum, and other demanding workpiece materials. The screw machine length profile — shorter than jobber length — makes it the correct choice when spindle clearance is tight or rigidity is critical. The web-thinned, parallel web configuration reduces cutting resistance and chip load at the point, which extends tool life in interrupted cuts or stack drilling operations.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks on drill presses, CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and screw machines. Suitable for drilling alloy steel and aluminum workpieces. Fits any chuck rated for a 7/16-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tool technicians familiar with drilling feeds, speeds, and chip load management. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Always power down and de-energize the spindle before changing or inspecting tooling. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the workpiece material, as cobalt bits are heat-resistant but not immune to overload failure under excessive feed or improper coolant application.
