The CLEVELAND C14711 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit handles tough alloy steels and aluminum where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces thrust force and self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch on most materials. At 3-5/16 inches overall length with a 1-15/16-inch flute length, the stub-length body provides rigidity and minimizes deflection in short-reach setups. Diameter is 0.3970 inches, corresponding to letter size X, with a tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0010 inches.
This bit is suited for production machining environments using drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools where a short, rigid bit is preferred. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks without adapters. Primary workpiece materials include alloy steel and aluminum. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction reduces cutting resistance and improves chip evacuation during deep passes. This is a heavy-duty grade tool intended for professional machinists, tool-and-die shops, maintenance departments, and industrial fabricators.
Designed as a heavy-duty OEM-style replacement or production tooling option for applications requiring a letter X diameter stub-length drill bit in cobalt construction. Compatible with any standard three-jaw chuck or collet accepting a 0.3970-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling professionals. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Follow applicable OSHA machine guarding and personal protective equipment requirements when operating drilling equipment.
