Product Description

The CLEVELAND C14696 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field applications. Built to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 standards, this M42 cobalt bit measures 23/64 inches (0.3594 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 3-1/16 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch on most materials. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction lowers thrust requirements and improves chip evacuation. A two-flute regular spiral geometry with a 1-3/4 inch flute length handles a wide range of hole depths. Licensed HVAC, mechanical, and industrial trades rely on this grade of tooling where standard HSS bits fail prematurely.

The C14696 is suited for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials in production and maintenance environments. Its screw machine length body — shorter than a jobber bit — delivers increased rigidity and reduced deflection, making it well matched to drill press, CNC, and turret lathe work where runout control matters. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks without adapters. Right-hand cut geometry is compatible with all standard forward-rotation spindles. This bit is rated heavy duty and is appropriate for repetitive-cycle production drilling where tool life is a primary concern.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt construction for extended tool life in alloy steels and hard materials
  • 135-degree split point reduces entry walking and lowers required thrust
  • Web-thinned, parallel-web design improves chip flow and reduces heat buildup
  • Screw machine length body increases rigidity and minimizes deflection versus jobber length
  • Right-hand, two-flute spiral geometry with 1-3/4 inch flute length
  • Meets ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 dimensional standards

Compatibility

Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.3594-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are alloy steel and aluminum. Compatible with drill presses, CNC machining centers, and turret lathes running standard forward-rotation spindles.

Installation Notes

Secure the shank fully in a clean, properly sized chuck before operation to prevent slippage and runout. Power down the machine and lock out energy sources before inserting or removing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid for alloy steel applications to manage heat and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges and split point before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
