The CLEVELAND C14667 is a screw machine length drill bit sized to letter M (0.2950 inches decimal), designed for high-production drilling in tight-clearance and screw machine applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles the elevated heat generated when cutting alloy steels and aluminum without losing edge hardness. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust and self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch on most materials. At 2.75 inches overall length with a 1.5625-inch flute, this stub-length geometry offers rigidity and reduced deflection compared to jobber-length drills.
This bit is suited for use in CNC screw machines, turret lathes, drill presses, and other production equipment where short, rigid tooling is required. Its straight cylindrical shank at 0.2950 inches diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. Typical applications include drilling alloy steel components and aluminum workpieces in manufacturing, machining shops, and maintenance environments. The two-flute spiral design with web-thinned, parallel web configuration promotes chip evacuation and reduces walking at entry.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production tooling choice for standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.2950-inch straight cylindrical shank, consistent with Series 2133 screw machine length tooling.
Install and remove drill bits only with the spindle fully stopped and the machine powered down. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized chuck or collet to prevent slippage under load. Inspect the cutting edges before each use; cobalt bits should be resharpened at the first sign of edge wear to maintain dimensional tolerance within the +0.0000 to -0.0010 inch specification. Coolant through is not supported on this bit, so apply flood or mist coolant externally when drilling at high feed rates in alloy materials.
