The CLEVELAND C14622 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built to M42 cobalt steel grade, it delivers superior heat resistance and edge retention compared to standard HSS bits. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and enables faster penetration with less feed pressure. At 2-3/8 inches overall length with a 1-1/4 inch flute length, this stub-length geometry provides increased rigidity and reduced deflection, making it well-suited for precision drilling on lathes, screw machines, and CNC drilling operations. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.2040 inches in diameter for secure chuck retention.
This bit is rated for cutting alloy steels and aluminum, typical applications in machining shops, fabrication facilities, and industrial maintenance environments. The web-thinned, parallel web construction reduces thrust requirements and improves chip evacuation in both through-hole and blind-hole applications. Right-hand spiral flutes with a regular helix angle handle a broad range of material hardness levels. The screw machine length profile is preferred where clearance is limited or where a shorter, stiffer bit is needed to maintain hole location accuracy. It is sold individually and is appropriate for professional machinists and tool-room technicians.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or upgrade for wire size 6 screw machine length drill bits conforming to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 specifications, compatible with any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.2040-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or industrial maintenance technicians familiar with rotary cutting tools. Ensure the chuck or collet is properly tightened and the shank is fully seated before operation. Always use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and surface finish quality. Wear appropriate PPE including safety glasses and ensure workpieces are properly secured before drilling.
